About Pati
Pati is a basket artist, teacher, and collector whose designs are inspired by Native American and international baskets. She teaches students of all ages from her South Carolina studio, serves as an Artist-in-Residence in schools, and teaches at museums, the John C. Campbell Folk School, and basketry conventions across the country.
A former elementary school teacher and librarian, Pati dyes her own reed, creates basket kits and patterns, and is the author of Award-Winning Basket Designs: Techniques and Patterns for All Levels. Her award-winning work has been featured in Southern Living, museum exhibitions, and artisan showcases throughout the Southeast. Pati continues to design and teach with a passion for keeping the art of basketry alive.
Workshop Details
Choose four of your favorites from a large selection of varied baskets and let the fun begin.
Check out Pati's brochure (to be mailed to you upon registration) and website, www.BasketsMySpecialty.com, containing numerous designs to choose from including class favorites such as Spirals Around the Cathead, Two Hearts in One Tote, Four Leaf Clover Basket Tray, Blue Ridge Cherokee Sampler, Bargello Arrows All Around, Diamonds in a Row, Table Runner, along with several award-winning designs i.e. Midnight Blue Cathead and Double Handle Carryall. Select a variety of sizes and shapes or choose similar forms to achieve certain shapes or techniques.
Select your baskets from the choices mentioned above and then choose your colors hand dyed by Pati prior to class. Depending on the basket pattern, there will be the options for weaving with round, flat or flat oval reed as well as options for a woven base, filled-in base, or wood base.
Explore numerous basket techniques: traditional over/under start/stop, continuous weave, double and triple three-rod and four-rod wale, reverse waling for Bargello Arrows, spirals, twills, diamonds, French randing, Cherokee Wheels, waves, and braids.
Along with weaving techniques, there are a variety of embellishments to weave such as flowers, medallions, knots, and God's Eyes that can add additional color and texture. For the rim and border, lash in the traditional double X, the 3-2 lashing, braid, or cable stitch. The final flourish in your journey into techniques can be one of Pati's handle wrap designs or fine leather handles. Additional materials, kits, and a signed copy of Pati’s book, Award-Winning Basket Designs; Techniques and Patterns for All Levels, can be preordered. A limited number of kits and materials will be available on site without preorder.
Selections for the four baskets to be made in class, as well as any kits you wish to preorder, must be communicated to Pati by August 2, 2027 (sooner is better). Basket material/kit prices range from $66 to $150 per project. Materials payments will be made to Pati at the workshop.
Tools/supplies the student should bring: Scissors, measuring tape, pencil, water container, spray bottle, packing tools, scarfing tool, clothespins or clips of your choice.

Overnight Packages
5-Day, 6-Nights Overnight Package Includes: 6 nights onsite lodging, private chef-prepared meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and 5 days of instruction in a private venue.
Materials fees paid directly to instructor.
Meals and Lodging: $ 1,172 per person private room, $757 per person shared room
Tuition/Fees $710
Non-refundable deposit of $250 due to hold workshop space. The remaining balance is due 90 days prior to workshop start date.
