About Nathan
Nathan Jenkins is a traditional craftsman from Page County, Virginia, and the son of master white oak basket maker Clyde Jenkins. Raised in a family dedicated to preserving Appalachian folk traditions, Nathan learned white oak basket making at an early age and has spent years refining his skills in traditional woodworking.
He is known for his demonstrations of the spring pole lathe, a centuries-old method of woodturning powered entirely by foot. Nathan also creates hand-hewn dough bowls, wooden goblets, bowls, split-bottom chairs, and other handcrafted items that celebrate the heritage and craftsmanship of the Shenandoah Valley.
Workshop Details
We will be making, from start to finish, a traditional Page County Kidney Basket. If the students find this is more advanced than their skill level, they can choose to make a market basket.
Students will be shown how to make their own materials for the basket of their choice, and then be shown how to put the basket of their choice together.
Materials Fee: Materials fee is included in tuition
Tools/supplies the student should bring: A knife, a piece of leather or jean to protect pants when scraping materials, and band-aids

Overnight Packages
5-Day, 6-Nights Overnight Package Includes: 6 nights onsite lodging, private chef-prepared meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and 5 days of instruction in a private venue.
Meals and Lodging: $ 1,172 per person private room, $757 per person shared room
Tuition/Fees $950 (includes materials fee)
Non-refundable deposit of $250 due to hold workshop space. The remaining balance is due 90 days prior to workshop start date.
