About Kathy

Kathy started weaving in a local class while in South Carolina and fell in love with basketry. She quickly expanded her education while in Japan with her family. She is influenced by the intricacy of Japanese and Shaker designs.

Kathy has been teaching and selling her designs for about 30 years.

Workshop Details

This course is intended to teach students how to order, prepare, and weave a Nantucket basket on their own in the future.  

Round Nantucket Tray

The first basket will be a 10” round Nantucket tray. The base, spokes and rim will all be cherry and the weavers are cane. Students will taper, sand and bend all spokes and then weave over a wooden mold. This is a required first basket. Materials Cost: $195 

The following baskets are your choice. Choose a minimum of three projects to complete in addition to the tray.

Navy and White Nantucket tote

The spokes base and rim are hardwood that has been dyed navy blue. The weavers are Hamburg cane. There is a braided navy blue handle that completes the tote. Materials Cost: $225

Tapestry Nantucket

This is woven over a 6” wood mold. The spokes are binder cane, and the weavers are cane, yarns, waxed linen, beads and other supplies that are provided. Materials Cost: $145

Square Leather and Silver Basket

 This square basket is woven over an acrylic form with an 8” spalted maple base. The sides are woven with reed and bleached round reed. An overlay design is woven in as you weave. At the rim a triangular leather piece is woven in. There is a silver bead at each point. Materials Cost: $125

Blue and White Nantucket Lamp

This unique lamp is woven using a Nantucket style of weaving. It is woven over a glass vase with dyed Hamburg cane. It has a twill design at the top. There is a maple base, pedestal and top. The lamp electrical parts are included, and a shade can be ordered, or you can purchase your own. Materials Cost: $125

Elegant Acorn

This cute acorn design is woven over a resin box with lid. The sides are woven with Hamburg binder cane. There is a unique curl design woven in as you go. Materials Cost: $85

Tools/supplies the student should bring: All normal basketry tools

Overnight Packages

5-Day, 6-Nights Overnight Package Includes: 6 nights onsite lodging, private chef-prepared meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and 5 days of instruction in a private venue.

Materials fees paid directly to instructor.

Meals and Lodging: $ 1,172 per person private room, $757 per person shared room

Tuition/Fees $950

Non-refundable deposit of $250 due to hold workshop space. The remaining balance is due 90 days prior to workshop start date.
