About Annetta
It’s hard for Annetta to remember a time when she was not making something, she is a maker. In the early 1990’s, she discovered basket weaving after stumbling upon a book and begging a lesson; she quickly began making baskets, experimenting, and teaching basketry. She has been teaching at fiber arts and basketry gatherings across North America since 2000.
Over the years, Annetta’s work has won several awards and been included in several national exhibits. She currently has work in several exhibits, including Art Evolved: Intertwined (Studio Art Quilt Associates and National Basketry Organization), both the 2024 & 2025 Small Expressions (Handweavers Guild of America) and the International Fiber Arts XII (Sebastopol Center for the Arts and Surface Design Association). Annetta served as the National Basketry Organization Board president in 2022 & 2023. She participated in the World Wicker and Weaving Festival in Poznan, Poland in 2023. Baskets. What started as a hobby soon became her life’s work. As a teacher, she focuses on mastery, basketry techniques and stretching perceived limits. As a maker, her work is somewhere between traditional and contemporary.
Annetta was born and raised on the prairies in Alberta, Canada. After living among the trees in Wisconsin for many years, she is happy to weave and live surrounded by mountains in Helena, Montana.

Workshop Details
This workshop is for students of all weaving levels who want to explore paper weaving, from painting the paper to cutting to weaving baskets. With the instructor’s guidance, each student will plan their course- explore diagonal twill plating, focus on shaping and designing your own basket or dabble in both. It’s up to you, this is your workshop.
Students will paint and prepare three large sheets of watercolor paper for weaving. This part of the class will take place during the first two mornings of the workshop. Students may weave with their own paper starting on Day 3. The instructor will provide watercolor paper and acrylic paints, as well as cutting tools.
In the weaving part of the workshop students will weave at their own pace, choosing from a number of basket patterns offered by the instructor. Most will take the full day, though some will only take a few hours. Some patterns will be available as full kits; you may purchase uncut paper for others or use the paper you paint.
The projects offered are broken down into two basic categories. The categories or tracks, and a listing of the patterns included, are:
Diagonal Twill Plaiting- The Basics (Square Bases, Rectangular Bases and Triangular Bases), Stair Step, Ginger Pot, and Footed Bowl;
Exploring Shaping and Techniques – Twisted Boxes, Tangled, Fancy Tails, Paper Cathead, Curvey Sampler, and Design Your Own Tips.
Students may choose one track and stay with it or dip into both. If you did not see one of Annetta’s patterns listed and you are interested in including it in your workshop, let us know and we will see if we can include it for you.
Cost: Cost of kits/materials for each project ranges from $25 - $65 each.
Patterns for each category will be spiral bound for ease. Each pattern book is $20 each and includes 6-7 patterns. The cost of painting 3 sheets of paper is $130; the sheets are each 22” x 30”. Students who do not wish to paint may purchase pre-painted paper. A tally of material costs will be tallied through the workshop and accounts settled at the end of the workshop.
Tools: For Painting: paint clothes or paint apron, paint brushes (I suggest 1” and 2” for sure) sponges (for sponge painting – textured and/or smooth), 2-3 pairs latex gloves, table covering, roll of paper towels, water container (cottage cheese containers work well), 10-12 paper plates, spray water bottle.
For Weaving: A #24 tapestry needle, sharp scissors, a ruler, a small packer and toothless micro clips. (Instructor will have 3mm packers and micro clips available for purchase.)
Students are also encouraged to bring a notebook for notes and sketches.
